Principles of Manufacturing & Machining/Machining Technology
Hatchell – METALS
Purpose: Principles of Manufacturing is designed to provide students with exposure to various occupations and pathways in the Advanced Manufacturing career cluster, such as Machining Technology, Industrial Maintenance Technology, Mechatronics, and Welding. In order to gain a holistic view of the advanced manufacturing industry, students will complete all core standards, as well as standards in two focus areas. Throughout the course, they will develop an understanding of the general steps involved in the manufacturing process and master the essential skills to be an effective team member in a manufacturing production setting. Course content covers basic quality principles and processes, blueprints and schematics, and systems. Upon completion of this course, proficient students will advance from this course with a nuanced understanding of how manufacturing combines design and engineering, materials science, process technology, and quality. Upon completion of the Principles of Manufacturing course, students will be prepared to make an informed decision regarding which Advanced Manufacturing program of study to pursue.
Evaluation: Grades are determined by the following in this class:
Practice - 40%
Assessments - 60%
Grading Scale:
A 90-100 D 60-69
B 80-89 F Below 60
C 70-79
Required Materials: PPE, Proper Clothing, Brain
Conduct – Any behavior that hinders the teacher’s attempt to teach or the students’ attempt to learn will not be tolerated.
Things to remember:
- Come to class prepared and alert.
- Come into the room and your seat (follows tardy policy/consequences for school). NOTE: This does NOT mean coming into the classroom or hanging out at someone’s desk.
- Exhibit RESPECT for yourself and others.
- NO food or drink in the shop area– Use designated places ONLY for food/drink.
- Stay focused on projects, avoid distractions, BE SAFE, help others when you are able.
- Cell phones and other electronic devices are required to be kept in a classroom/backpack (NOT ON THE SHOP FLOOR AS THEY ARE A DISTRACTION)
Consequences:
Failure to abide by procedures or any other misconduct or disrespect of the Teacher or other Student will result in the following disciplinary measures:
1st offense – Warning and documentation of offense
2nd offense – Parent notification
3rd offense – Office referral
According to the nature of the offense, steps may be skipped. THIS IS HATCHELL'S CLASSROOM, NOT YOURS. FAILURE TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS ALLOWS THE POSSIBILITY OF INJURY TO PERSONS. IF YOU DO NOT FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS YOU WILL BE DISMISSED FROM THE CLASS AND FAILED.
Attendance Policy – Be here. Being present and participating in class improves your grade.
WELDERS/TOOLS – In this class, students are given the opportunity to work with GREAT TOOLS! It is extremely important that we take care of them. Any abuse of the tools (use outside of proper operation) will be handled with disciplinary action, which means students will be written up, given a zero, and sent to the office, or removed from the class (NO WARNING).
